KEEPING CLEAN AND GREEN

Some six months ago, we launched a free pilot recycling collection initiative, with the aim of increasing awareness around recycling and testing a "free collection model" in selected residential suburbs.

The purpose of the trial was to investigate the sustainability of offering a free recycling collection to residential properties. The hope was to have enough people getting involved in the project, so that the volumes collected would cover the cost of the vehicles and drivers. The reality was somewhat different. Our current resources have been severely stretched, putting pressure on all aspects of the business. The initiative has not generated additional income from the collections, which has indirectly prevented us from increasing our resources to meet the demand.

After careful consideration, we have reluctantly decided to withdraw the free collections at the end of April 2011. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, as we know many residents have supported the initiative enthusiastically. If you have purchased a recycling bin for the purpose of the free trial, we will gladly purchase the bin back from you.

We will forward this by email to all residents on our free trial database.

Whole Earth would also be willing to set up a recycling drop off point, for each of the areas that have been involved in the free trial, all we would need is a piece of land, we are willing to fence it in and staff it 5 days a week at no charge. If you are interested in setting up a drop off point please let me know and we can discuss the details.

We thank you for taking the time and effort to be part of this recycling trial. We thank you for your understanding. Please don't hesitate to contact us should you have any queries.

Kind Regards
Warren Stevenson

PERMANENT RE-INSTATEMENT OF FOOTWAYS

extracted from the City By-Laws - "Code of practice for work in the Road Reserve"

13.6.3
If a private driveway and footway with non-standard materials are to be excavated, the owner of the property concerned must be informed in advance and in writing of the intended work. The owner must then [supply/specify to]the authorised person [with] the materials that are to be used for the reinstatement.
13.6.4
If any unconstructed verge has an established lawn, this must be removed, stored and replaced in sods in such a way that the lawn is in the same condition after reinstatement as it was before excavation. If the sods are allowed to dry out or become damaged in any way, they must be replaced with similar sods.
13.6.5
If an unconstructed verge has been planted with garden vegetation other than lawn, the owner of the adjacent property must be consulted before excavation, to obtain instructions on what to do with the plants that are affected. Every effort must be made to preserve all plants

Meter Reading

Eskom normally reads meters around the 15th/16th of the month. The meter reader carries official Eskom identification.

Paper Collection

Ronnie Recycler collects every Monday. If you do not have a bag simply leave papers on the pavement and a bag will be left for the next collection. Ronnie Hotline: 08000-22-11-2 or go to www.paperpickup.co.za

Street Lighting

Apart from Waterfall Ave no streets have formal lighting. We advise residents to try and provide as much lighting outside their entrances and on the street as possible.

Pavements

In the interest of maintaining the beauty and high standard of our suburb, residents are encouraged to maintain their own pavements and allow for pedestrian passage.

Renovations

The Security Committee appeals to all property owners who are planning to renovate to act responsibly in contributing to the safety of those inconvenienced by this process. Please regard this initiative by the Committee as mutually beneficial and an essential requirement for all owners and residents.
